13. Why Can't I Be You
The whale called after them, the deep song no longer the mournful cry that had bounced off the immovable slopes of Reverse Mountain. Luffy sat backwards on his special perch and waved madly, rubber arm stretched higher than the mast so Laboon could see it over the sails. Zoro leaned against Merry’s rail and bit back a laugh as Usopp lamented the state of the captain’s drawing skills. Only Luffy would think to challenge a whale, make a promise to return. His captain had enough optimism for an entire fleet and it couldn’t help but spill over onto his nakama.

14. Out of This World
Nothing had felt right since his boots first touched the soil of Whiskey Peak. It was all too convenient, too friendly, too abnormal. His swords danced in the moonlight as he uncovered the truth and Zoro was nearly convinced the world had returned to normal when Luffy came at him. Bloated with food, his mind was obviously gone because the words he spoke didn’t belong on his lips. Zoro stared, disbelieving, as his captain named him betrayer. They fought, just a hair away from total seriousness, and it took Nami’s fists on their skulls to put things back to rights.

15. In Your House
The figurehead was pale and empty under the moon and Zoro stood gazing upon it for long minutes and ignored the staring eyes he could feel at his back. Men didn’t need apologies, those were for women, but he wanted one anyway. Of all the things for Luffy to have said, to have believed of him. Wasn’t he nakama? Wasn’t he the very first? The lack of trust cut in ways he hadn’t expected, deep and throbbing like a gut wound, and he didn’t turn around until the eyes gave up and warm rubber limbs wrapped around his waist instead.

16. Grinding Halt
Little Garden, Nami tells Vivi as the boat slides along the river, is a poor joke of a name. The boys are delighted with the prehistoric beasts and the man-eating flora and they listen to odd snatches of yelling over the erupting volcanoes. It’s a paradise of male bonding and even Usopp oohs and ahs in between fits of cowering behind Sanji’s legs. The only thing preventing Luffy from hauling Zoro with him into the jungle is the challenge between men as the swordsman and chef posture and argue about who’s better, bigger. Nami hopes the log post sets quickly.

17. Breathe
Suffocation is a pathetic way to die, nearly as bad as choking on the damn chef’s dinner. The wax is thick and his eyelids are nearly too heavy to blink. Luffy is out of control, rampaging like a mindless beast. The captain, Zoro thinks, really needs to learn to resist hypnosis. Each breath is harder, his lungs filling with clogging particles. At least his ankles don’t hurt. All Luffy has to do is destroy the candle pole. The air wheezes in and out of his chest and it’s the only thing he can still feel. That idiot captain better hurry.

18. A Thousand Hours
They don’t find out Nami is sick right away. She hides it, writes off her flushed face as too much sun, as a result of being covered in wax. She sweats through dinner and Zoro, who notices things, starts to wonder when Vivi hovers anxiously around the navigator. She grows worse quickly and worry wrinkles Luffy’s brow, the first time Zoro’s ever seen that happen. They all keep a vigil and Luffy falls asleep in Zoro’s arms surrounded by his nakama. The time until the next island stretches out until they all want to snap. And then it gets cold.

13.How can you not fell good when Luffy dose.

14.Fear the Nami for she has fists that hurt. And isn’t it just like a man to fight instead of talk. XD

15.So cute. Even Zoro needs some love some time.

16.Ha Ha. Men and their “No min is Bigger” arguments

17.Darn Luffy for taking so long to save me

18.I like it. Shows the group getting together. I also like Vivi being a nerves “wife”

15 is just... ;_; I'd never considered just how betrayed Zoro would feel by that kind of doubt but it makes so much sense. *feels the need to hug them both*

I liked 18 too, especially the last two lines. The nakamaship of even Zoro being worried for Nami is happy and the last line manages more forboding than should fit into 5 words.

They totally didn't explore the aftermath of the Zoro Luffy fight, didn't they? It would totally made sense if Luffy did something like that, he's a very touchy-feely kinda person I would think.

I loved all the tiny touches you included about their relationship, there yet not there, and the way they depend on each other for support. Exactly the way it would have been in the original. ^_^
