It was positively stifling below decks, hotter than normal since all the portholes were closed and a small brazier with smoldering charcoal sat in one corner. Even still, of the three forms sleeping in Nami's room, one shivered under the heaps of blankets. The prone form of the captain was also mostly buried in bedding, but he'd thrown an arm free at some point.

Zoro was in his usual sleeping slouch against the wall, beads of sweat dropping from his hairline to slide under his collar, but dozing all the same. Too hot to not sleep almost, a womb-like quality to the place. Zoro had drawn patient duty, not that he was complaining. Chopper had already declared Luffy and Robin to be out of the woods. All they needed was warmth and plenty of rest to recover and ward off any possibility of illness. So there wasn't much for Zoro to do with both of them asleep. Besides, down here he was safe from Sanji's simpering and Nami's kicking whims. He had nodded off himself within minutes of relieving Usopp.

The poor guy had been drenched, fanning himself and panting. Slapping Zoro on the back in sympathy as he left, he'd gone in search of an icy drink and a cool shower. To Zoro, the heat wasn't all that intense. After all, he trained regardless of the temperature. And with nothing else to do except stare at his charges, he hadn't fought his drooping lids and his traditional mid-afternoon nap. He was drowsing quite peacefully when a sudden noise wrenched him back into full awareness.

It was Luffy, arm jerking free of his blankets and flailing about in mid-air. The captain was grunting, a slight frown visible as he struggled in his sleep. When he showed no signs of slipping back into calmer dreams, Zoro sighed. He felt too lazy to get up and scootched across the floor, settling between Nami's bed and the pallet on the floor. The captain's fist managed to catch him on the chin once before he caught it, grumbling to himself. Even asleep, Luffy had a mean right hook. Absently his thumb stroked the inside of Luffy's wrist.

Even now it wasn't quite warm enough. The captain had a sun-warmed quality, an internal heat that radiated even in the depths of winter. Currently that heat was banked, dimmed by the icy attack of the Marine Admiral. Luffy was powerful, but against a man who could generate subzero temperatures at will, there wasn't much the rubber captain could do. Besides, he'd still been recovering from the pummeling he'd gotten from Foxy. It wasn't like he'd been in peak condition when he'd faced Aokiji.

The wrist he was holding jerked in his grasp and with it Zoro's thoughts. 'Damn heat's messing with me.' "Oi! Luffy! Wake up!" He shook the captain's arm, using his other hand to poke Luffy's side through the blankets.

"Nnngn...gon-na ge' youuuu...wha? Zo..ro?"

"YES! Idiot, you woke me up and then punched me in the nose."

"Eeh? Really?"

"Yeah, you were dreaming."

"Aaah, that marine guy. He really pisses me off. Next time I'll beat him."

Zoro nodded. That was more than likely true. Luffy always somehow managed to come out on top in the end. Usually under his own power, but sometime by luck. Which reminded him.... He leaned closer to the sleepy captain, not wanting what he was about to say to be overheard.

"Oi, when you had that afro, did it really make you stronger?" He couldn't believe he was asking this, but he'd wanted to know since Foxy's defeat. It was more than likely a psychological effect, but one could never be sure.

"Afro? Oh, with that fox guy! Yeah! Usopp said it made me look really cool! And you guys and the other pirates were all cheering when ya saw it. Afro's are the best! But, Usopp said they only work for boxing. So I hadta leave it. Didn't ya like it?"

"Hnnn." Truth be told, Zoro had thought it was ridiculous, but in the end it helped Luffy win, so it wasn't all bad. But it was a relief to know that it really had only been psychological. Especially since the idea of Luffy wanting to put them all in afro's to help them fight had been haunting his dreams. "Sure, it was cool."

"Yeah." Luffy yawned, pulling his wrist from Zoro's grasp. The captain rolled over on his side, snuggling down underneath the blankets. "'m still sleepy. G'ni Z'r...zzzzzz"

Zoro grinned at Luffy's back, choosing to ignore the sudden emptiness of his fingers. He leaned back against Nami's bed, sparing a quick check for Robin's resting form. It was more comfortable here than against the wall, warmer too, but in a good way, and he decided not to move. "Sleep well." And he closed his own eyes, relieved that visions of blond, orange, and black afros would no longer disrupt his sleep.
