Title: Stories

It was on the bottom shelf, resting between a well-loved stuffed rabbit and three wooden blocks whose paint was mostly gone. Robin got up carefully from the bed, wary of disturbing her sleeping companion. She hadn’t seen this particular book in seventeen years. Sella and the Sea had been one of her favorites, lost of course, with everything else. This copy has tattered pages, and several rips had been carefully repaired with glue and thread.

“Sella had always wanted to go to sea.” Robin whispered the opening line softly. “She wanted more than anything to be a…”

“…sailor like her grandmother.” The mellow voice joined hers to complete the sentence.

“Yours?”

The young woman sighed and shook her head. “No, my sister’s. Those are what she chose to leave behind. She believed there was no time for them anymore, not that Arlong would have let her play anyway.”

This last comment was bitter, and Robin gently traced her finger down the inner spine of the book. It was just as well that she did not meet Arlong’s navigator and met instead this charming and defiant young woman. It wasn’t every day that she was threatened with pruning sheers and then treated to dinner. She’d come recruiting, but the tale recounted by this tattooed girl is almost as tragic as her own. At least this story is tempered by the slightest of hopes, an impossible dream born on slender shoulders.

“I see.” Robin closed the book gently, placing it carefully back amongst the remnants of an abandoned childhood. “I think that I’d like to meet her, your sister.”

When this is met with a frown, Robin was quick to offer reassurance. “When we’re both...free. I have a feeling we’d get along most agreeably.”

Nojiko nods. “I think you will. Someday.”

Title: Change Up
Rating: PG-13ish
Pairing: Hina/Tashigi
Word Count: 299

It’s with a great deal of anticipation and not a little bit of impatience that Tashigi unlocks the door of the hotel room. A week’s worth of listening to boring old men droning on and on about combating the pirate menace when she could have been out there actually fighting them was beginning to take a toll on her nerves. Captain Smoker had already skipped the last two days, and she was near her wit’s end when it came to making up excuses. Fortunately Captain Hina had promised her both herself and all of Saturday. There were also hints of yet another present and Tashigi has spent most of the interminably long Friday afternoon meeting pondering just what it could be.

The last gift the pink-haired captain gave her had been the flogger. Tashigi had grown quite fond of it, though the riding crop that came before it was even better. They still had plenty of rope, several pairs of handcuffs, – Tashigi preferred Hina’s own special touch in this area, but it never hurt to have spare restraints – more than enough candles, and even that one knife that the captain brought out on special occasions. What else could they need? What else could it be?

Maybe, and Tashigi feels her face growing hot as she turns the key, it’s one of those substitute male part thingies. Hina HAD said something about just a few days ago. That comment had caused her to miss most of the discussion about North Blue, but Tashigi got over that loss pretty quickly. When she enters, Captain Hina is already in the room, naked and toying with one long, white feather.

“Um, Hina ma’am, that’s not, er, howisthatsupposedtohurtme?”

The captain smiles, stands, flicks Tashigi’s nose and watches as it crinkles.

“Hina will show you.”
