Title: The Sound of Dreams
Rating: G
Pairing: Gen
Word Count: 233
A/N: Spoilers only through Skypiea, so basically none
Sssshhhh!
The harshly whispered command made the rounds of Mock Town, for once bringing all fighting, carousing, and even casual conversation to a halt. The pirates fell silent, all heads cocked, their ears tilted skyward. From seemingly not too far away, a pure and vibrant note rang out in the air. It was unmistakably the tolling of a bell. A bell that was invisible but its tone was rich and true, too beautiful to have come from any cast material but gold. It was a musical promise and one that had many of Mock Town’s inhabitants exchanging glances.
On the other side of the island, a trio of close friends listened to the sound together, tears of joy rolling down a pair of the faces. The third smiled and wiped at moist eyes. Over a decade’s worth of hard work and a lifetime of buried faith had finally paid off.
And in a sheltered cove, a small group of laboring men worked to construct a new ship. Their leader, a large man with gap in his grin, laughed long and hard as the final echoes of the bell faded. He’d been right, it seemed, and the sky island was real. His own dream was getting ever closer and, if he was lucky, he’d be there to meet the ones who’d been to the sky when they decided to come out of the clouds.
