Prompt: No Need
Rating: G
Pairing: Zoro + Usopp
Word Count: 506
Robin has the sharpest eyes of the crew. Her cerulean gaze never misses a thing and that’s not just because she can sprout them and sprinkle them about the ship like a dusting on peacock feathers. She’s an observer, born and bred, and the devil’s in the details after all. But Zoro’s a pretty swift cookie himself and before she showed up, it was his hidden leafy watch that kept track of all the activity on deck. He’s a protector by nature, a big brother type even though he’d deny it, and he rests easily only knowing his nakama are safe.
The swordsman sees most things. It’s his nature and a useful skill in his chosen profession. So he picks up all the clues and hints and fumbled attempts at obfuscation. Perhaps it’s a little cruel that his own demeanor can be so stern and inscrutable, too hard to read even in the lines of his lazy napping face. But he’s not purposefully mean and when the day comes, he doesn’t miss the signs.
Usopp is like an erratic tide, pulling towards him and then receding all throughout a sunny morning and the sultry afternoon. He stammers and stutters, starts sentences and cuts them off with an abrupt clack of teeth, and his hands are always fidgeting. Warm brown eyes that have been watching for months can scarcely bear to glance away for even a fraction of a second. Zoro waits and watches and when evening watch comes, he flashes a smile instead of his usual grumble and climbs up into the crow’s nest.
Around eleven o’clock, after everyone has gone to be except for Robin still reading and nursing coffee in the galley, waiting herself because she knows full well what is going on, a bandanna-covered head nervously edges its way over the top of the crow’s nest. Zoro is impassive as Usopp launches his elaborate and false explanation for coming, waits until the story winds down before his arm shoots out to keep the sniper from losing the last of his courage and turning away.
Strong arms and warm fingers haul Usopp over the side, plunk him down next to the swordsman. Zoro stares up at the stars, silent still, and Usopp nervously follows his example, half his attention still tuned to the other’s tanned face. Finally Zoro grows bored or finds what he’s looking for and he turns back, stares deep into Usopp’s eyes as the sniper’s eyelashes flutter and his knees tremble and something warm (nerves maybe or butterflies or that chili star he accidentally swallowed after dinner) grows in the pit of his stomach.
“Me too,” Zoro says, blunt, plain, and seemingly at random. And then he leans closer, green gaze disappearing as his eyes close, and Usopp has time to smile before he meets him in the kiss. Robin, who’d wondered what the swordsman would do, closes the eye she had open on the mast and also her book. She has her answer and is content to seek her bed.

closes the eye she had open on the mast and also her book Oh, Robin. Not watching? That's willpower.
10 more days! Wooo! I should have a post in a day or two where we can talk about more definite plans. O_O Wow, how did that happen? 10 days? OMG, I can't wait to see you guys again! (I've only got like a zillion and one school things I told myself I'd get done between now and then. If I can only make myself do, say, four of those, I'd be happy.)
