“Ssshhh!” Zoro hissed, a finger wagging in front of his lips as he shot a dark glance over his shoulder. “You wanna get us busted?”
“N-no.” The word came out in between poorly muffled giggles, Usopp biting his tongue because bringing a hand up to cover his mouth at this point just didn’t seem a good idea to what little was left unpickled in his brain. And would take too much coordination. “Butchu gotta stop doin’ that ‘cause I can’t stop laughin’.”
The swordsman apparently didn’t understand or couldn’t be bothered to care because he took another exaggerated tiptoe step along the wall, back pressed flat against it, and carefully craned his neck to peer around the corner. It was the spy business, watching Zoro act like any small child trying to sneak around after a forbidden treat, which had the sharpshooter unable to suppress his laughter. That and an evening spent in the older pirate’s company trying to keep up with even half the pace Zoro set when he put his mind to getting good and sloshed. Everything seemed funny, the way the world had gone fuzzy and slightly tilted. Although that could have been his knees; they didn’t seem to want to bend properly and he knew he was swaying on his feet even with the outside of the galley wall pressed against his shoulder. And then Zoro made with the secret agent act again, complex hand symbols wavering in front of Usopp’s face before he disappeared ninja-like into the shadows around the end of the wall.
“Stealth pirate Cap’n Usopp schneak ‘tack – Dark Moon Dis’pearing Act!” One finger pointed towards what he was assumed was the sky and then the intoxicated sniper followed his leader with something less than cat-like grace.
By some alcohol-blessed miracle they made it into the galley unnoticed, the door shutting with a quiet click behind them. Pale moonlight ghosted in icy bars through one porthole window, enough to cast the swordsman in sudden relief as he moved towards the liquor cabinet. Enough to draw Usopp after him too, but not enough to illuminate Luffy’s abandoned floaty lying on the floor after his evening swim/bath. It wrapped with surprising tenacity around the darker boy’s ankles, sent him tripping across the galley floor while a series of unintelligible but amazingly hushed syllables left his throat, and finally sent him flailing into Zoro with enough force to knock the tipsy swordsman onto the floor as well. Sharply whispered words swelled in the swordsman’s throat but he swallowed them back when Usopp nuzzled deeper into the haramaki-covered stomach his face had landed on.
“Mmm, com-feezzz….zzzz.”
And just like that the alcohol stupor hit and Usopp was gone, lost in slumber land. Zoro sighed and smiled crookedly down at the lightweight sleeping in his lap. At least he could reach the wine rack without having to move.
