And the final 6! Yosh, all 30 completed in the span of a boring night at work. That whole 5 minute thing was quite effective in prodding me along. These are all rather lame but there are a few that I actually like. I'm sad to say that I only made it through Alabasta. I'll have to go home and find another theme to use to finish this off.
25. More Than This
Extremes were the norm in Alabasta’s deserts. The heat went straight to Luffy’s brain, the captain getting on everyone’s last nerve. Ace eyed them all, bowed and offered his apologies. Something, mabye guilt, maybe just manners, had Zoro returning the bow and rubbing the back of his head. Luffy was theirs after all, whether he was crazy on cactus juice or being dragged along like a limp rubber noodle. The sand grew as cold as Drum snow at night and Luffy crawled into Zoro’s lap seeking warmth. Green eyes met firelit ones and the swordsman smiled as he drifted off.
26. Scared As You
Water came pouring in, sapping his strength as surely as the seastone cage around him. Luffy couldn’t stop trying though, straining through the gaps before wilting against them and losing even more energy. Zoro eyed the bars and his swords and didn’t move. They traded glances and said nothing. Later, after Sanji got them free, they took out their aggression on the rest of the bananadiles. The water grew higher and Luffy sagged over the cook’s shoulder, still calling for Crocodile. Zoro eyed him dubiously and saved the marine in spite of his misgivings. Luffy was still captain after all.
27. The Walk
Rain fell on the parched cobblestones of Alubarna and the people, rebel and soldier alike, dropped their arms to raise disbelieving faces to the cloudy sky. A ragtag band of pirates staggered through the rejoicing crowds. Zoro didn’t know where they were going, somewhere to rest perhaps. All that mattered now that Vivi had succeeded was finding Luffy. The captain was fine; he believed that with all of his being. But he’d be hungry and apt to cause trouble without his nakama around. The swordsman smothered a yawn and trudged on. He hoped they found him soon; he was tired.
28. Just One Kiss
The fever raged into the night, Luffy uncomfortably still and silent, pale against the whiteness of his robes and the sheets. Zoro, his own wounds patched, stalked the halls dressed in black and took to meditating in the barren stretch of garden behind the palace. Balancing giant rocks took much concentration but not enough and the swordsman gave up around midnight. His chest tingled, the scar remembering the feel of warm fingers and he gave in to his impulse for once. His captain’s forehead burned against his lips and Zoro glared at him as he settled in to keep vigil.
29. Hey You!!
An hour of time was all they had. Sanji and Usopp were seeing to their stores with Chopper and Nami had disappeared with her princess. Zoro wandered the empty halls in search of his training ground but apparently it had moved. Luffy found him standing in a ray of watery moonlight and called to him, his voice loud in the silence. The swordsman raised a hand in greeting and the captain took it, tugging him off towards the very garden he’d been looking for. Words weren’t their strong suit but hands and eyes and lips said everything that was necessary.
30. The Drowning Man
Everyone was crying, sobbing slumped between the narrow railing posts on Merry’s upper deck. Zoro crossed his arms and sighed in exasperation. Such sentimentality was ridiculous when common sense would have shown them why Vivi could never have continued on with them. Not that he wouldn’t miss being called Mr. Bushido, but it was nothing to shed tears over. He studied Luffy’s wet face, glanced at the rest of his nakama and ground his teeth as he decided what to say. They’d hate him for a few minutes but at least they’d stop bawling. Anger was always better than sorrow.

Date: 2006-08-29 02:02 am (UTC)Ooooh, the last one hurt just a bit.
You amaze and inspire me with your writing and the setting of challanges for yourself. I'm impressed with this idea, the fact that you carried through with it, and that you managed to get quite a few good little moments out of it. Thank you for giving my ZoLu fangirl a little boost, she'd been suffering from sad neglect lately.
Sorry about my html failure during the last review, in the interest of not spamming your inbox too badly I decided not to fix it. ^^;
