19. Just Like Heaven
Zoro dreams that night they all sleep together, sharing body heat and comfort and wordless prayers for Nami. He dreams of warmth and laughter, a sky filled with stars. He wakes up with his nose buried in Luffy’s hair and a damp spot on his shirt. Luffy dreams too. He dreams of sunlight and scars and promises, so many promises. He wakes up when his living pillow disappears, Zoro slipping away to train because he never stops, no matter what. For a brief moment at waking they both forget Nami’s sick and that there are hammocks and a couch waiting.


20. Snow in Summer
Never let it be said that Zoro logic was the same as real logic. Despite being surrounded by fields of snow and having an ice flow edging by the Merry, his brain decided that since it was still summer back home in East Blue it was perfectly acceptable for him to go swimming. He called it training and ignored the squawking of Vivi’s duck to dive overboard in nothing more than his pants. The water hit him like a physical blow, cold seeping in immediately to freeze his blood. He swam on. The distraction was more important than keeping warm.


21. The Funeral Party
Snow buries Sanji’s head, covers the giant rabbits with a white blanket. Nami is shivering despite all the heat he can feel radiating from her. Luffy digs his cook out of what could have been a frozen grave and carries him too. The cliffs loom high above him and his fingers don’t work as well as they should. He closes his eyes and climbs on instinct, his body punished by the icy wind. He is a captain that doesn’t abandon his nakama. It is that green-edged faith, which they have in him and he in them, that keeps him going.


22. A Strange Day
He’s been an ice cube, met a talking reindeer and an ancient witch/doctor, watched Sanji suffer and Nami gloat, and been told how Luffy defeated the bizarre king all in one day. Warm at last in, Zoro leans back against Merry’s mast and watches one final miracle. Sakura blooms in the sky over Drum and it feels like home in spite of the sea, the strange people at his side. Luffy wanders over with chopsticks in his nose and leans on his shoulder. It’s been a weird day but that seems to be par for the course with his captain.


23. Catch
It’s a few days’ voyage to Alabasta and in spite of Vivi’s tension boredom soon takes hold. They are hungry too, and Sanji sets them to fishing. That wears out soon enough when they fail to catch anything and Usopp suggests a game. Zoro thinks the Going Merry is too small for hide and seek but Luffy and Chopper’s pleading eyes make him relent. The swordsman wedges himself into an empty crate in the storage hold and falls asleep. He wakes up hours later to find Luffy has snuggled in after him. It’s nice until Zoro realizes they are stuck.


24. Dressing Up
Usopp, Luffy, and Chopper run around the deck in desert gear after Sanji kicks them out of his kitchen. The long robes flap and flutter in the ocean breeze and Usopp declares himself to be a daring desert outlaw, wrapping the cloth around his head even tighter, covering his mouth and nose. Luffy and Chopper react appropriately and Zoro cracks open an eye to watch them mimic the sniper. How Luffy manages to choke himself and send Chopper overboard in his struggle is a mystery, but Zoro has to agree with Nami when she makes them stow the robes away.

"It’s nice until Zoro realizes they are stuck." Luffy, you rock my world. ^^ Having a rubber body and all he would manage to wedge himself into places that it would be insanely difficult to get him out of.

The image of Zoro with Luffy asleep on top of him and them being stuck and needing the rest of the crew to un-stick them...!! Or, Zoro would just kick the crate open, after Luffy has had his sleep, of course. Wouldn't want to wake his captain, oh no.
