Title: Shared Friends (stupid, but I couldn't come up with anything better)
Pairing: Johnny/Yosaku, Ace/Johnny/Yosaku, implied Zoro/Johnny/Yosaku, implied Ace/Zoro
Rating: PG...mainly inuendo
The duo strode confidently into the bar, several hours of seeing other establishments visible in their swaying posture and loud voices.
"Hey, bartender! A pint for me and my partner here!" Johnny yelled across the moderately full tavern, staggering a bit under Yosaku's weight as he helped his slightly more inebriated companion weave in a meandering path to the main bar. With only a little trouble, he managed to get both Yosaku and himself perched on the old wooden stools.
"Oi, our beer!" He called again as mugs failed to appear in front of him.
"Yes, yes, just a second please." The rather harried looking barkeep called over his shoulder as he hurried towards the kitchen door. "I need three more specials, fast." The man waited impatiently at the half door as an assistant cook in a food stained apron handed the food over. Peering out he pointed at the far end of the bar. "Are these plates for that guy again?" he asked, amazement and humor evident in his voice. "Yeah...and he might want more so be ready. It looks like it'll be a very long night."
The balding bartender sped past the two bounty hunters to the figure hunched over a pile of plates. He was eating at an astonishing pace; dishes were stacked high on either side of his orange-hatted head. Yosaku roused a bit at the site. He poked Johnny none too gently in the side.
"Does that eating style look familiar to you, partner?" Johnny, who had followed the bartender's path to make sure he got their alcohol, turned to really look at the eating machine at the far end of the bar. "Yeah, it does...kind of like brother Luffy's style and he's eating almost as much, too."
The man turned towards them, Johnny's mildly intoxicated voice louder than he'd known. "Mid mou ust ay uffghi?" he questioned, spraying food particles in all directions. "Yeah," Yosaku nodded. The man, who wasn't wearing a shirt and had some very nice looking abs Johnny noted, swallowed and climbed off his stool. He ambled over to the two men, looking at them appraisingly.
"So, you two know Monkey D. Luffy?" "Oh yeah, we hooked up with him and brother Zoro and brother Usopp and sister Nami, and then we all met brother Sanji and then we kicked Arlong's sorry ass!" Yosaku waved his hands wildly as he mimicked the fight with the mermen, nearly falling off his stool until Johnny slung an arm around his waist to steady him. The arm stayed there even after Yosaku was once more secure on his seat. He leaned comfortably against Johnny, missing the raised eyebrow the unknown man turned on his partner. Johnny just stared back calmly, eyes hidden behind his customary sunglasses, even in the dim light of the bar. "And how do you know brother Luffy?" Yosaku continued, taking a swig from the beer the bartender had finally produced.
"Funny you should put it that way. I'm Ace, and I'm Luffy's brother, his actual kin brother." "Really?! That's great! Why don't you come sit with us and we can swap stories." Yosaku tried to kick the stool next to Johnny over to Ace unsuccessfully. Ace chuckled and plopped down on the seat, waving the barkeep over. "Another round for me and my new friends here." "Will you be wanting any more to eat, sir?" "No, I think I'm good for a few hours." With a sigh of relief, the bartender went to get the beer as Ace turned to the two bounty hunters.
They talked about Luffy and his crew for several hours, Ace describing his time with the straw hat gang in Alabasta and Yosaku going over their time in East Blue. Johnny interrupted occasionally to correct a part of the tale or to ask questions. Talk turned from Luffy to his crew. "So, you knew Zoro before he joined up with my brother?"
"That's right. The three of us travelled for a while when he was still a pirate hunter and not a pirate." Johnny chuckled as he answered this time. "It was so weird to see that our brother Zoro had joined a pirate crew." The possessive tone in Johnny's voice was unmistakable, and Yosaku nodded his head in agreement before stopping suddenly. "Uh, bad idea. I think I'm a little drunk Jo." Once again Ace raised his eyebrow to Johnny, this time at the use of the pet name, and the other merely shrugged.
"Zoro spent a lot of time with you, then?" "We were together for about a year. He stumbled into a fight we were having with some low-bounty pirates. Normally we'd've had those guys beaten and in jail with the reward money half spent, but we both had caught really nasty head colds and kept sneezing and coughing while we were trying to attack. He helped us capture those guys and then went off to the bar with us. He passed out after only two drinks so me and Yosaku put him up for the night. The next morning we were offered the chance for another bounty, and we asked him along, seeing as we still weren't over our colds. He said he had nothing better to do and helped us again."
Johnny paused to nudge Yosaku with his shoulder; "Hey, hey, you're practically drooling. Cut it out." Yosaku smirked drunkenly and continued his habit of the past several minutes, ogling Ace and then stroking Johnny's thigh. Johnny groaned in mild exasperation and turned back to the pirate. "Sorry about this...he gets like this when he's pretty smashed and well,..." Johnny rubbed the back of his head in embarassment. "Well, um, you do look pretty good, but..." He trailed off for a moment, a faint blush barely visible in the dim lighting.
"Anyway, brother Zoro hooked up with us and we taught him all about being a bounty hunter and drinking and sleeping and bar fighting and all kinds of other stuff. You could say we taught him almost everything he knows, except of course, the whole bit with the three swords. So, one day we got separated during a fight and we couldn't find brother Zoro. We knew he was all right, because not much can hurt him, but he was lost. We didn't see him again until we ran into brother Luffy and everybody else." Johnny slowly wound the story down until the three of them were sitting in companionable silence.
The bar was empty by this point, excluding of course themselves and the weary bartender. Ace stood slowly, footing only slightly unsteady despite the multiple mugs of beer he'd downed. He looked the two bounty hunters up and down, brows knit as if in deep thought. Finally he seemed to come to a decision. "Were you guys the ones who taught him that trick he can do with his tongue, too?"
Yosaku roused himself from his contemplation of Ace's biceps. "Hell yes, that was us. Johnny told you, we taught brother Zoro nearly all that he knows, and actually," Here Yosaku actually leered. "That does include a certain amount of swordplay." Johnny groaned at the bad inuendo but Ace found it hilarious and doubled over for almost a minute.
"Well, if you two don't have any other plans, I already have a room here for the night and wouldn't mind learning a thing or two myself." "Yes! Let's go!" Yosaku leapt from his seat, or rather tried to, and Ace caught the man easily. He swung the pirate hunter's arm over his shoulder and headed for the stairs at the back of the bar. Johnny followed, a bit bemused, but definitely enjoying the sight in front of him.
The exhausted bartender heaved a sigh of relief as he headed for his own bed on the second floor. Little did he know that the shirtless pirate had booked the room right next to his own. The poor man never did get any sleep that night.
