ZoSopp Challenge 57
Prompt: Ice Cream
Rating: G
Pairing: Zoro + Usopp
Word Count: 435
Feigning disinterest, Zoro pretended to ignore his younger nakama as Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper eagerly crowded around the stout man in white selling ice cream out of a metal pushcart. The reindeer, having purchased a sundae with strawberry syrup and topped with a cherry, tugged at his pant leg. Large brown eyes shimmered up at Zoro as Chopper’s high voice piped up with a question as to whether or not the swordsman was going to get ice cream too. It was on the tip of his tongue to explain that eating sweets wasn’t manly – which was why Zoro always snuck his out of the shitty chef’s kitchen to devour them in secret – when the swordsman paused and thought about the effect his words would have on the doctor gazing so expectantly up at him.
Zoro spared a glance at the other boys, grinning a little when Luffy’s too-flexible tongue wrapped around a towering cone of four scoops and promptly swiped all of the frozen treat back into his mouth. A beat later and Luffy clapped his hands to his head with a groan while a now-distracted Chopper danced around frantically and Usopp chuckled and chided the captain about brain freeze. The sniper, in a clear attempt to compete with his captain, had ambitiously ordered a four-scoop cone as well and Zoro saw his chance. He smoothly stepped in and ordered a lone scoop in a disposable bowl and turned around in time to witness Usopp’s dilemma.
The prominent nose that defined Usopp’s face was making it very difficult for him to properly lick his cone, getting in the way and covered with melting ice cream whenever he tried to lap at any of the lower scoops. Only the top was easily accessible and the day was warm, already sending rivulets of melted dessert dripping off the cone as the sniper wasn’t able to properly keep up. And, with Luffy’s continuing moans, the possibility of brain freeze wasn’t one the sniper seemed to contemplate.
Zoro chose that moment to come to Usopp’s rescue, a wry remark and a fingertip tapped against the end of the sniper’s nose before the swordsman licked it clean enough to convince the younger pirate to tip two of his scoops off into Zoro’s waiting bowl. The flavors Usopp had chosen were a bit more adventurous than the swordsman’s conventional chocolate but they were, he decided, quite delicious and he didn’t put up too much of a fight when the sniper ended up putting the rest of his ice cream in the bowl and fighting with him for turns with the spoon.
