Still More Drabble Requests

This first one's for [livejournal.com profile] mcmenses who practically wrote this herself, giving me an excellent plot idea. Any suckitude or errors, however, are my own.

Title: Dressing Gown
Rating: G
Pairing: The usual mishmash of Kyou Kara Maou
Word Count: 537

“Oh Heika!”

At the sound of Gunter positively gushing, Yuuri’s head jerked up from where it had been most intently focused on gulping down his breakfast so he could escape the castle and yet another day filled with tedious paperwork and dry history lessons. Of course Gunter fawned all over him on a regular basis, but there was a particularly pleased quality to his voice that morning. The man was close to tears, like always, but he was also positively beaming as he burst through the doorway into the dining room.

“It’s just perfect Heika! So like you to know my exact size and the colors that compliment my eyes and hair so wonderfully! And having one of those adorable bumblebears deliver it was so clever and sweet!”

Tossing his pale lavender hair over his shoulder, Gunter van Christ spun about in a manner distinctly like that of Yuuri’s mother when she had on a new dress. He was wearing a dressing gown made of raw silk, the color periwinkle blue with a smattering of white snowflakes around the hem. It was, Yuuri conceded, a very fine garment. And it most certainly suited the prone-to-emotional-outbursts man. But he’d had absolutely nothing to do with it, and he began opening his mouth to tell Gunter just that.

Sitting next to Yuuri, Conrad had kept one eye on his charge and the other on his older brother. Gwendal hadn’t even bothered to look up when the doors were flung open and that was a dead giveaway. Then he’d stolen a glance or two over the top of his knitting when Gunter had begun spinning around. As soon as Yuuri looked as if he was ready to stick a cute foot in his mouth, a trait that Conrad had to admit he found both very endearing and very exasperating, the swordsman stamped firmly on his majesty’s other pedal appendage.

Yuuri squeaked, Conrad smiled, Wolfram frowned, Cecilie laughed, Gwendal remained impassive, and Gunter actually halted his twirling and babbling bits of praise to his ‘thoughtful, smart, handsome Heika.’

“A-ah.” Yuuri tried to find his voice and smiled gratefully at his appointed protector when Conrad gracefully stepped in to cover him.

“It looks very nice on you, Gunter. I’m sure we all agree that is quite the thoughtful gift.”

“Yeah, you look good,” Yuuri added. He wasn’t sure what was going on, but he had no trouble admitting to the truth.

“Thank you Heika!”

At such high praise from his beloved majesty, Gunter began to swoon. As it happened, Gwendal was sitting closest to him and he managed to catch the other man before he could hit the floor. For those who knew him, there was no mistaking the pleasure underlying Gwendal’s gruff words.

“I’ll just make sure he calms down so we can eat our breakfasts in peace.”

And then he vanished through the door, Gunter in his arms. Yuuri stared, open-mouthed, and Wolfram scowled and told him to stop imitating a fish.

“What just happened here?”

Conrad couldn’t help it. It was just such a typical morning in the main palace of Shin Makoku. He started to laugh, shaking even harder as Yuuri, as confused as ever, helplessly joined in.

A/N: I can't stay away from the ConYuu, Pam! I just can't do it! And I hope this was okay despite that.

And the rest of these are for [livejournal.com profile] brian_kun. I'm finally through with his multiple requests.

Title: Peeling Back the Masks
Rating: PG
Pairing: None really, but you can see NaRo if you want
Word Count: 289

For nearly all her life, Robin had been playing an elaborate game of pretend. She’d been many things to many people – the innocent child, the wanted criminal, the second-in-command of an ambitious criminal organization, the archaeologist on a tiny, cheerful pirate ship. Now, bound in chains at the feet of one of her greatest enemies, she couldn’t hide any longer. A tear trickled down her cheek and she shouted, shouted out all the pain and sorrow and anger that had been her burden for twenty long years.

The Buster Call was not something to be bandied about so casually. Her homeland destroyed, the ancient weapon had set her on a vagrant’s lonely course down the Grand Line. She would NOT see a place as historical as the Ennies Lobby destroyed because of one deluded man’s whim. She would NOT watch the first true nakama she’d had in twenty years die a fiery death all because of her. She would NOT be a witness to the abrupt pruning of her budding friendship.

The eyes of her shipmates were dark and fierce as understanding came. She had never been an open person, but now it was all laid bare. And as she begged on her knees at the feet of her tormentor, Nami’s eyes filled with tears of her own and she remembered another tyrant holding souls hostage with brute force and mad dreams of power. ‘Robin,’ she wanted to scream. ‘We can win. This can be overcome. These guys have done it before, saved whole countries. And they, WE, can save you.’ But she held it in and tightened her grip on her Climatact. There was catharsis in being brought so low and Robin would be grateful for that later.

Title: A Test and a Dance
Rating: PG
Pairing: NaLu
Word Count: 326

The navigator knew how to hold her drink. She could have the rest of the crew, except for the swordsman, passed out on the floor before she even started to get a buzz. Unfortunately, while Nami was smart and clever and sly, she lacked the sheer level of deviousness possessed by their resident archaeologist. Robin, with the aid of some of the doctor’s powders, had spiked Nami’s wine during the weekly drinking contest. There was nothing really sinister behind Robin’s actions. She had been curious to see how the usually in-control girl would act while under the influence of a combination aphrodisiac and inhibition-lifter. Nami had been odd lately, acting moody and depressed and not abusing her boys as much as normal.

Singing only slightly off-key, the navigator waltzed around the kitchen with a drunken Chopper in her arms. She came to a dizzying halt in front of Robin and deposited the reindeer on the bemused woman’s lap. Sanji was the next victim. But he didn’t fare very well. Intoxication and an overload of hearts had him swooning before he’d managed even three steps. Zoro refused to budge and he had a firm grip on the back of Usopp’s overalls (an attempt to keep the other boy from climbing up onto the table and starting one of his epic song-and-tale cycles, as well as perhaps because Long-Nose made a good pillow), so the sharpshooter also escaped a dance.

Luffy was her final companion then, and they whirled across the galley again and again, Luffy’s bright laughter ringing out over Nami’s voice. Finally they came to an abrupt halt, Luffy unexpectedly falling over backwards and bringing Nami with him. There had been a significant pause and then she’d kissed him once and promptly fell asleep, snoring ever so faintly. Robin cuddled an equally unconscious Chopper and smiled to herself as Luffy gently touched a finger to his lips. It seemed as if her questions had been answered.

Title: Auld Acquaintance
Rating: G
Pairing: Hiluluk and Kureha
Word Count: 233

“He’s a good boy, so much potential that would just be wasted. And he’s bright, smarter than I ever was. He can learn. Teach him for me, please.”

“You never ask for much, do you old man? We’ll see. You’re not going to die tomorrow.”

“It’s soon, though, I can feel it. Tell me straight. How much time do I have left?”

“…A real doctor would know the answer to that question.”

“Are you saying I’m not a real doctor?”

“You know full well what you are. You’re crazy. And thirty days.”

“Only a month then. Ah well, I’ll finish my masterwork before that point. I just want to make sure he’s looked after.”

“We’ll see. You complete your insane task and change this island and maybe I’ll consider it.”

“I knew you’d see things my way! More sake?”

“…”

“You know you want some. It helps keep your youth.”

“Shut up. You know nothing about that. And yes, I’ll have some more.”

“Cheers!”

The echoes of a past conversation rang in the old woman’s ears, a side effect of the cannon fire she supposed. All around her cherry blossom snow fell on the truly liberated Drum Kingdom. And far ahead, swiftly shrinking and soon to vanish into his future, her unexpected charge ran and remembered similar conversations. Tears fell but they tracked through smiles. Hiluluk wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
